About

Alex Cohen is a media artist, scholar, and educator working across critical media practice, performance, sound, and artificial intelligence. His research examines how technological systems acquire authority and how claims about intelligence and ethics are performed, contested, and made credible.

He is a PhD candidate in Electronic Arts at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His dissertation, Performing AI Ethics, combines historical and theoretical research with satire, performance, and critical prototyping.

His work has been presented through academic conferences, exhibitions, workshops, and performance contexts, and his broader practice includes experimental sound, wearable instruments, interactive systems, and synthetic media.

Background

Before beginning his PhD, Cohen taught music technology and digital audio production at Georgia Tech and North Carolina State University and worked in technical and production roles across music, performance, and audio technology.
